Mary was a road runner, sticking to half marathons and marathons while raising two young kids with her running partner and husband. Approaching her 40thbirthday in 2013, she thought she would celebrate with another race. She had hoped to run the NYC marathon but didn’t get in the lottery. Before she could plan an alternate race, Mary’s her world changed. Her mom passed away due to complications from a rare form of myelodysplastic disease.
During that summer, running was an outlet for her. She still wanted to do something big for her 40th birthday and she found the Stonecat 50 Mile Trail Race, which also on the weekend of her birthday. She asked a couple people who had done the race how hard would it be to 50 miles. The answer was that it was "doable". So, with that she went all in and registered for the 50 miler. Her first ever trail race.
November 2, 2013 was the race.
